Stunning Locations for Colorado Engagement Photos
With countless Colorado engagement photo locations, it can be tricky to narrow the list down. That said, I’ve compiled some of the most picturesque locations and a few of my favorites for shooting engagement sessions.
Note: Many Colorado locations require a photography permit. I take care of annual and one-time permits for my couples. So when it comes to your engagement session, you don’t have to worry about this!
Mount Falcon West Trailhead
- Location: Indian Hills
- Accessibility: easy
If you and your partner enjoy hiking, Mount Falcon Trailhead is one of the best engagement photo locations near Denver. This is one of several hikes in Mount Falcon Park and a place I absolutely love photographing.
Mount Falcon West Trailhead is more secluded than others in the park and offers unmatched mountain scenery. The trail also takes you past unique castle ruins, which make for a cool photo op!
Chautauqua Park
- Location: Boulder
- Accessibility: easy
Chautauqua Park is just minutes from Downtown Boulder and sits at the base of the iconic Flatirons mountains.
This is easily one of my favorite places to take Colorado engagement photos, especially during summer when wildflowers bloom. That said, it’s beautiful year-round, with the unique Flatirons rock formations as a stunning backdrop.
Lost Gulch Overlook
- Location: Boulder
- Accessibility: moderately easy
If you’re dreaming of an epic sunset engagement session, Lost Gulch Overlook is PERFECT!
This is easily one of the best places to take engagement photos if you want incredible scenery without getting too adventurous. Take an easy hike to a lookout point that offers picture-perfect mountain views.
Rocky Mountain National Park
- Location: Estes Park
- Accessibility: varies (multiple sites)
I’ve photographed several couples at Rocky Mountain National Park, and it’s an unforgettable experience every time!
The park covers more than 400 square miles and boasts countless places to take photos – from dramatic mountain scenery and large meadows to gorgeous lakes and lookout points off Trail Ridge Road.
Rocky Mountain National Park is fantastic year-round and is especially incredible for winter engagement sessions.
Crested Butte
- Location: North of Gunnison
- Accessibility: varies (multiple sites)
Crested Butte is a charming and beautiful mountain town off the beaten path in Western Colorado and one of the most magical places. There are many locations to take your Colorado engagement photos, including next to the Alpine Lakes, in meadows of wildflowers, or at the base of a waterfall.
Honestly, you can take your engagement photos anywhere in Crested Butte and have an amazing experience with gorgeous pictures. The entire town feels like your own piece of paradise.

What do you wear to an engagement photoshoot in the mountains?
Your engagement session in the mountains is meant to highlight you and your love, so wear whatever you’re most comfortable in! If you’re hiking, I recommend wearing hiking shoes and bringing different shoes for photos if you’d like.
Other suggestions for what to wear include coordinating colors and bringing a second outfit if you want to change it up.
Feel free to ask your photographer for specific clothing tips based on your photo location, time of day, etc. In fact, I send engagement couples a Pinterest outfit inspiration board to help them plan their outfits!
What month is best for engagement photos?
The best month for your engagement photos depends on the scenery and weather you’re looking for. In Colorado, all four seasons offer a unique vibe.
Winter is chilly but offers the ideal opportunity for a winter wonderland session. During spring, the snow is melting, and flowers start to bloom. Summer is warm and Colorado’s busy season. Fall is also a popular time of year with gorgeous fall foliage.
How soon do you take engagement pictures?
It’s best to have your engagement session 6 months to a year before your wedding. This allows time for you to get your photos back to share with loved ones, use them for announcements, and display them at your wedding.
How much are Colorado engagement photos?
Colorado engagement photos are usually about $1,000, give or take. Pricing varies on the length of the shoot and the photographer’s experience.
