Planning to elope in Washington State? You’re in the right place.
As an elopement photographer, Washington State is one of my favorite places to join couples for their special day. My husband and I also eloped here, and it was truly the most magical experience.

From alpine meadows and lush rainforests to rugged coastlines and romantic coastlines, Washington has scenery unlike any other. This guide covers everything you need to plan the perfect elopement, including the best locations, planning tips, legalities, and what to expect in each season.
An elopement is an intimate ceremony with just the two of you or just a few loved ones. A micro wedding is similar but typically includes a small guest list, usually under 20 people. Both options let you have a wedding day that feels personal and authentic to you.
Washington is a great fit for an elopement or micro wedding. The diverse landscapes, easy legal process, and year-round accessibility make it one of the best states to get married outdoors — whether it’s just the two of you or a small group of your favorite people.

Washington has something for every couple. You can exchange vows in an alpine meadow, on a rugged coastline, or in a lush rainforest.
The best reasons to elope in Washington State include:
Washington has no shortage of incredible elopement locations. Below are some of my favorites, along with everything you need to plan your day at each one.
Best for: Easily accessible sweeping mountain views
Special use permit: Required
Accessibility: Easy, with drive-up access and optional trails of varying lengths
Availability: May – October (weather dependent)
Hurricane Ridge is in Olympic National Park and sits above Port Angeles with panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains. It’s one of the most accessible places for a mountain elopement. You can drive straight up the mountains for picture-perfect scenery or hike for a more adventurous experience.

Best for: An adventurous elopement off the beaten path
Special use permit: Required
Accessibility: Moderate, with some drive-up spots and many locations that require hiking
Availability: June – October (weather dependent)
The North Cascades is one of the best places for an adventure elopement in Washington State. It has over 300 glaciers, rugged alpine peaks, and cascading waterfalls. It’s also a bit more remote than other locations so you can have a peaceful experience exploring nature without big crowds.
Best for: Iconic Pacific Northwest scenery with wildflowers and glaciers
Special use permit: Required
Accessibility: Easy to moderate, with drive-up overlooks and hikes for all levels
Availability: May – October (weather dependent)
Mount Rainier National Park is one of Washington’s most popular elopement spots and for great reason. The diverse landscape is gorgeous, with alpine meadows and lakes, massive mountain peaks, and forests. Whether you want a relaxed elopement in nature or an adventurous experience, this is the perfect place for it.

Best for: A pet-friendly elopement and easy access to Pacific Northwest scenery close to Seattle
Special use permit: Not required
Accessibility: Easy to moderate, with trails for all levels and some drive-up options
Availability: Year-round, with best conditions May – October
Just 45–60 minutes east of Seattle, this area is in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. It’s one of the most accessible and unique spots for a forest elopement in Washington. Couples enjoy the mossy trails, waterfalls, and mountain backdrops without a long drive. Dogs are also welcome, so it’s perfect for a pet-friendly elopement.

Best for: A stunning beach elopement
Special use permit: Required
Accessibility: Easy, with a short trail from the parking lot to the beach
Availability: Year-round, with best conditions April – October
Ruby Beach is in Olympic National Park and one of the most beautiful places to elope along Washington State’s coastline. Sea stacks, driftwood, and dark sand make for a unique backdrop. There are also tons of other beautiful areas nearby if you want to explore and take photos in several places. Ruby Beach is also dog-friendly, so fur babies can join for your special day.

Best for: Waterfront views and a relaxed elopement vibe
Special use permit: Varies by location
Accessibility: Easy, with mostly flat terrain (ferry or seaplane required to reach the islands)
Availability: April – October
The San Juan Islands are a group of islands off the northwest coast of Washington, accessible by ferry from Anacortes. Each island offers a unique experience — Orcas Island is dramatic and mountainous, San Juan Island has lavender farms and lighthouses, and Lopez Island is quiet and laid-back. This is the perfect experience for couples who want something different yet gorgeous and relaxing.

From choosing your dream location to handling the legalities, a little preparation can help you plan the perfect elopement experience.
Hiring an elopement photographer who also helps with planning is the best way to simplify your elopement and bring your vision to life.
Many photographers, like myself, offer guidance leading up to and during your elopement. When I work with couples, I not only capture the special moments of your wedding day but also offer location scouting, timeline creation, and vendor recommendations to help you plan your elopement.

Think about the vibe that feels most like you as a couple. Love hiking? Go for the mountains. Prefer something chill and scenic? A beach or island elopement is a great fit.
When choosing your location, consider accessibility, permits, and your ideal season. Your photographer can also help you pick your location based on your ideal experience.
To plan your elopement, start by picturing your perfect day. Consider personal touches and activities that are special to you and your partner.
When you’re planning, consider the following:
Here’s what the legal marriage process looks like in Washington State:
Note: Some out-of-state couples prefer to handle legalities at home before traveling for their elopement.
Book flights and lodging as early as possible if you’re traveling for your elopement, especially in the summer. If you’re planning an affordable elopement, flexible travel dates can help you save money.
Washington has many accommodation options, including vacation rentals, cabins, campgrounds, and hotels. When I work with couples, I offer travel and lodging tips if needed to make planning easier.
The most important part of your elopement is to be present and celebrate your love.
Helpful tips to enjoy your special day include:
Washington is beautiful year-round, but the best timing depends on your ideal location and aesthetic.

| Season | Months | What to expect |
| Spring | March–May | Lush greenery Wildflowers at lower elevations Fewer crowds Some trail closures at higher elevations |
| Summer | June–August | Best mountain access Colorful wildflowers Warm weather More crowds in popular areas |
| Fall | September–October | Gorgeous foliage Fewer crowds Cooler temperatures |
| Winter | November–February | Winter wonderland scenery More seclusion Limited access to higher elevations |
I offer mini, full-day, and two-day elopement packages so you can choose the experience that fits your vision — from a simple, intimate ceremony to a full adventure day or multi-day elopement.
Every Washington elopement package includes:
To elope in Washington State, you must be at least 18 years old. Apply online for a marriage license in the county where you plan to hold your ceremony. Once you pick up your license, your ceremony must take place within three to sixty days with an officiant and two witnesses present.
No — there’s a mandatory three-day waiting period after you receive your marriage license. Plan accordingly and apply at least a week before your ceremony date to avoid any stress.
Costs vary by county but are typically less than $100, including the license and ceremony fee. It’s a simple, affordable way to make things official — then you can head out for your own celebration and photos afterward.
A Washington elopement typically starts in the low thousands, which generally covers your photographer and location. The exact cost to elope depends on travel, accommodations, permits, and any activities you add. Whether you want to keep it simple with a free scenic location or splurge on a multi-day adventure filled with unique experiences, it’s easy to elope on almost any budget.
I love helping couples plan meaningful elopements in one of my favorite places in the world. From location and timeline support to day-of planning and photos, I’m here to help every step of the way.

“Brooke was the perfect choice for our wedding day! We had a micro wedding at Sapphire Point in August. I had never been to Sapphire Point and Brooke was so helpful suggesting vendors, picture locations, parking, marriage license info etc. She was so kind and helpful before and during the whole process and was a large part of why the day went so smooth. She does so much more than just show up and take pictures, Brooke will truly go out of her way to make your wedding day perfect! The photos are gorgeous and I keep getting so many compliments! I truly cannot recommend her enough!”

We chose Brooke to capture our Colorado elopement and she did exactly that and more. She made it easy to plan our day out with locations and timelines so that we could focus on ourselves. We decided last minute to change our afternoon/evening elopement to a 6am sunrise one so beat the heat of the day. Brooke accommodated us without hesitation and even created a new timeline for us so that we knew where to be for the perfect sunrise. She was kind and understood what we wanted in terms of our elopement and we are so grateful to have her capture the day. Our photos turned out beautiful and truly helped us relive the day. I would recommend Brooke to anyone wanting their special day photographed.

Brooke not only photographed our mountain elopement beautifully, but she put so much thought into the details and knew all of the answers the questions I didn’t even know to ask. She really puts a lot of thought into each photo and brings her expertise while still remaining very open to what we wanted and ideas we had. She even helped pick the perfect spot for us and advised us on the logistical details like securing a reservation at the mountain lake where we wanted our ceremony. She is SO easy to work with and very friendly and chill. My husband and I are super awkward in front of a camera but she made it so natural and easy - and the shots came out better than we could have imagined.

Brooke is many things; talented, calm, flexible, experienced/ knowledgeable, patient, incredibly responsive, organized, resourceful in a pinch, supportive, creative, professional yet a blast to work with, and goes above & beyond w her clients. Our wedding was a spectacular dream and we couldn't be more grateful that she made that single day last forever. Whether she's photographing nature or an intimate event, her pictures tell a story of peace, love, whatever your vision may be. We couldn't recommend her more and we look forward to booking with her for all of our vow renewals, seasonal and family pictures for as long as she'll have us.

Working with Brooke was a dream come true! Before we even met, my husband Brent and I were impressed by her portfolio. After meeting, we were even more convinced that her photography skills and knowledge, and her fun and easygoing personality were exactly what we were looking for in an elopement photographer. Brooke was able to take our vision and facilitate everything so that it worked out beautifully, especially when it came to finding the perfect location (the incredible mountains surrounding Ouray). Throughout the entire planning process, she was honest and flexible, and made it clear that her goal was for us to be 100% happy. In the end, her creativity and our happiness totally shine through in every single photo.

I can't begin to express my gratitude for the intimacy and beauty behind Brooke's photographs. In capturing our wedding day, she went above and beyond to document our story, our families, and the depths of our love in ways that I'll forever be grateful for. Brooke has an eye for not only capturing the adventure and magic of your love, but deeply connects with your personal story, understands your relationship, and then gives that back in the most incredible way. She is truly an artist and tells your story in an authentic and creative way for you to look back on for years to come. We are forever grateful to Brooke for spending the time to get to know us, our story, and capturing the memories that we'll relive for years to come.

“If you're contemplating which photographer to go with, THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO CHOOSE BROOKE!!!! She is so so so talented and was able to capture our elopement exactly how I pictured and wanted! We eloped in Ridgway, CO this past September and she was so helpful figuring out picture locations, recommendations of timeline for the day, and just made the whole day feel so smooth. She schedules multiple check ins, phone calls, etc., leading up to the big day to ensure everything is as you want it. Brooke has such a calming, down to earth presence and is one of those awesome people you feel like you've known forever after just the first time of meeting."
